U.S.-South Korea military exercises

Three days after it launched an ICBM, North Korea conducted a nuclear counterattack simulation as a response to the ongoing South Korea-U.S. joint military drills.

Beijing is throwing its weight behind Pyongyang’s claim that its missile tests are a necessary defensive response.

After holding a Central Military Commission meeting, North Korea continued its preemptive response to the South Korea-U.S. joint military drills.

Three days before the South Korea-U.S. combined military exercises kick off, North Korea launched short-range ballistic missiles toward its western coast.

The latest missile launch comes as South Korea and the U.S. prepare for large-scale military exercises, and President Yoon plans trips to both Tokyo and Washington next week.

Joining a series of North Korean statements over upcoming South Korea-U.S. military drills, the supreme leader’s sister warned of taking a military response.

Amid the reinvigoration of the South Korea-U.S. joint military drills, Pyongyang again framed the exercises as a direct threat to its regime.  

The South Korean and U.S. militaries are preparing to conduct two exercises: Freedom Shield, a computer-simulated training, and Warrior Shield FTX, large-scale joint field training.

North Korea followed up on threatened counteractions to the U.S. and South Korea by launching an ICBM and firing two multiple rocket launchers. 

In a statement published in KCNA, North Korea warned the U.S. and South Korea of “unprecedentedly persistent and strong counteractions.” 

When South Korea launched ballistic missiles of its own, one Hyumoo-2 missile crashed on the outskirts of Gangneung city.
